The 17th edition of the African senior athletics championships takes place from 28 July-1 August at Nyayo national stadium in Nairobi. Over 1,500 athletes and officials from across the continent are expected at the biennial competition, which is organised by the Confederation of African Athletics.

The programme includes a broad range of track and field events and a 20 km walk but no marathon. High-profile athletes taking part include Ethiopia
