The All Africa Games in Maputo were closed by Mozambican president Armando Guebuza on 18 September with South Africa as the top medal-winning country with 151 medals.

Nigeria, which fielded the largest number of athletes at 359, came third highest out of the 48 participating countries, after Egypt edged past Nigeria with just one more gold medal.
