Cape Town airport to get major upgrade

Airport project to boost tourist sector and increase air traffic.
Cape Town International Airport is set to receive a major upgrade in an effort to transform the tourism industry and increase visitor numbers to the Western Cape.
Airport authorities plan to install an extra-long runway to accommodate larger aircraft after receiving the necessary planning approval to proceed with the redevelopment.
The South African tourist board believes that the upgraded airport would attract more direct flights to Cape Town but acknowledged that the region's roads and railways should also be upgraded in order to grow the domestic tourist market.
Cape Town airport recently called for tenders for 23 new retail outlets to join the airport's existing 65 stores.
