EAC heads of state meet in Arusha

The tenth Extraordinary Summit of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State takes place in Arusha, at the Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge, on 28 April.  

Those attending the event include the Kenyan president and chairperson of the EAC Summit Mwai Kibaki, Tanzania's president Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, Rwandan president Paul Kagame, the president of Burundi Pierre Nkurunziza and Uganda's president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Among the topics for discussion are the appointment of a new deputy secretary general from Uganda; renewal of contract of Jean Claude Nsengiyumva (deputy secretary general for productive and social sectors); and reports from the Council of Ministers on a Single Customs Territory, and the application by the Republic of South Sudan to join the EAC.

The summit follows the 24th extraordinary meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers which took place at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) from 20-25 April.
