Ethiopia to play Egypt in Addis Ababa

Ethiopia and Egypt will play a friendly match on 25 May in the Addis Ababa Stadium, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the forerunner of the African Union (AU).

The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) described the game with Egypt as a "warm up" for the Ethiopian team which will face Botswana, South Africa and Central African Republic in the 2014 World Cup qualifier round, which begins in June and ends in November.

Egypt is also participating in the qualification round of the tournament, taking on Guinea, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

The now-defunct OAU was founded in 1963 in Addis Ababa and was replaced by the AU in 2001. The Ethiopian capital is the seat of the AU secretariat, the African Union Commission.
