Increased law enforcement on Cape Town beaches
Cape Town’s beaches and recreational hotspots are to be patrolled by “auxiliary” law enforcement officers.
The volunteer officers, who start work in the run-up to the peak holiday period between Christmas and New Year’s Day, will patrol the city's popular beach areas, focusing primarily on dealing with alcohol-related incidents.
After completing three months of part-time training, the volunteer officers will lead after-hours patrols with neighbourhood watch groups.
All officers must be over 21 and have no criminal record.
