The cost of a single entry tourist visa to Kenya, valid for three months, will drop from $50 to $25 per person as of 1 April as part of efforts to boost the tourism sector in the country. By the same token children under 16 will be allowed to enter the country free of charge. The new fee structure will remain in force until the end of 2010.

The reduction in visa charges is the latest in a series of moves aimed at revitalisting the tourist industry in Kenya after it took a knock due to post-election violence at the start of 2008. The tourism ministry headed by

Najib Balala is also investing heavily in overseas marketing campaigns.
