Major traffic changes in Dar es Salaam

Traffic shake-up aimed at reducing congestion

Major traffic changes are expected in Dar es Salaam's Central Business District (CBD) where traffic flows will be changed in the coming months.

The reorganisation is designed to reduce congestion and is part of the Dar Rapid Transit System (DART) to ensure the smoother movement of traffic in the city centre.

Motorists have been warned to watch out for new signs advising them of changed traffic flow, new bus routes and limited street-side parking.

Priority will be given to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in many streets in the centre. Private traffic will be restricted on Morogoro Road, part of which will be limited to only BRT and pedestrians. Commuter buses on Kilwa Road will now stop at a designated bus stop before turning back along the same route, while a new bus stop will also be introduced at Mnazi Mmoja for buses on Nyerere Road and Uhuru Road.

Commuter buses going towards the centre on Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road will now stop at the YMCA on Upanga Road, doubling back on the same route for the return journey.
