Tanzania is to get a new Moevenpick hotel under an agreement between the proprietor Taninvest Group and the international hotel management company based in Switzerland. Moevenpick already operates one hotel in the east African country, the award-winning Royal Palm Hotel in Dar es Salaam.

The Arusha venue will be set on 100 acres of land at the foot of Mount Meru between Arusha and Kilimanjaro International Airport. It will have 200 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a conference centre, a spa complex and a 18-hole golf course.

The new hotel is expected to tap into the growing interest from tourists in the so-called northern circuit, which includes the nearby Serengeti national park, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro crater.

If all goes to plan the hotel should open to its first guests by 2011.
