Rockefeller Foundation funds Accra ICT park

World-class facility aimed at unemployed Ghanaian youth

The Rockefeller Foundation has granted the Ghanaian government $3.8 million to construct a major data centre in Accra. The aim of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) park is to attract business to Ghana and address the country's youth umemployment.

The world-class ICT park will be located in central Accra and will lead to the direct and indirect employment of 10,000 people according to the Rockefeller Foundation, one of America's oldest private philanthropic organisations.

The grant is part of the foundation’s $100-million Digital Jobs Africa project, whose goal is to change one million lives through ICT skills training and job creation for disadvantaged youth.

Now in its second year, the initiative is being carried out in six African countries: Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa. Based in New York, the Rockefeller Foundation was established by the Rockefeller family in 1913 with the mission "to promote the well-being of mankind throughout the world."
