Six-lane highway from Dar es Salaam to Chalinze

The Tanzanian government plans to construct a six-lane 100-km expressway from Dar es Salaam to Chalinze to reduce congestion along the existing Morogoro Road, according to the deputy minister for works, Gerson Lwenge.

Chalinze is situated to the west of Dar es Salaam, roughly half way between Dar es Salaam and Morogoro, some 200 km away.

Lwenge said that the project was likely to be implemented through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) with either a local or foreign investor, and would be operated as a toll road.

The minister warned that those living illegally within the road reserve should vacate immediately or face eviction without receiving government compensation.
