South Korea opens embassy and trade office in Maputo

Move signals increasing trade between the two nations

South Korea’s Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) is due to launch a business centre in Maputo, following the opening of the South Korean embassy in Mozambique in late October.
The Business Centre will facilitate trade between the two countries and comes after the recent visit by a South Korean trade delegation interested in investing in Mozambique's natural gas, petroleum, energy and infrastructure.

Over the last few years South Korean companies have constructed major solar power stations in Muembe, Mecula and Mavago districts in Mozambique’s northern Niassa province. Trade in goods and services between Mozambique and South Korea totalled $110 million in 2012.

KOTRA is a South Korean government organisation with a network of 120 offices in 82 countries.
