Swiss chocolate produced in Dar es Salaam

Swiss chocolate company Neuchatel Chocolate is to establish a facility at Dar es Salaam’s Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in September, when it will produce chocolates for export.

The premium chocolate maker, which displayed its wares at the recent Dar es Salaam Trade Fair, will become the first company based in East Africa to make and export chocolates.

Based in Pennsylvania, United States, the company was founded by Swiss Albert A. Lauber V in 1982, and already uses Tanzanian cocoa to make its chocolate.

The products, which will carry the label "Quality chocolate from Tanzania", are expected to be sold at a reduced rate locally, as EPZ firms are entitled to sell 20 per cent of their products on the domestic market.
