Exodus Festival in Addis Ababa

15-17 March 2012. Alliance Ethio-Française hosts three days of musical and cultural events.

On 15 March the Exodus Festival starts at 16.30 with an opening event, performed by the Drums of Rastafari. At 17.00 there is a screening of a movie, entitled Marcus Garvey, A Giant of Black Politics. At 18.00 Dr. Giulia Bonacci holds a lecture, entitled The Universal Ethiopian Anthem: a Musical and a National Heritage. At 19.00 Prof. Abiyi Ford holds a second lecture, entitled Bridging the Atlantic Divide: Ethiopia in the Liberation Discourse of Afro-Caribbeans and African Americans. At 20.00 the Drums of Rastafari perform live.

On 16 March at 16.30 there is the screening of the movie The Journey of the Lion. At 18.00 Sir Hilary Beckles holds a lecture on Europe’s Black Dept: Reparations Owned for Slavery. At 19.30 the Goethe Institut of Addis Ababa hosts a Reggae Concert by Ras Kawintseb, Ras Yohannes and the band Naturel Groove.

On 17 March at 13.30 Alliance hosts the screening of the movie Roots, Rock, Reggae. Inside the Jamaican Music Scene (1977), followed at 14.30 by a panel discussion, entitled The Voice of the Elders. At 16.30 on stage are the Drums of Rastafari. From 17.00 to 20.00 there will be a Reggae Concert by Syney Salomon & Imperial majestic Band, Teddy Dan, Chakula & Goldilocks, Ebony and the Natural Groove band. The Exodus Festival ends at 19.00 with an Italian buffet.
