The fifth edition of the Slumfilmfestival in Nairobi will be showing some 30 films, about slums or made in the slums around the world.
A third of the films are made by Kenyan film makers, with others coming from Argentina, Malaysia, Nigeria, Uganda and the United States. The theme of this year’s festival is Reels of Hope.
Awards are for the best contemporary African film, best documentary, best short, best community news piece, best origianl screen play, judges’ choice and people’s choice.
The festival started with workshops for 12 young film makers.
