The Dream of Shahrazad premiers in Cairo

This film by South African documentary director Francois Vestier relates recent events in Egypt, Turkey and Lebanon.

As in The Arabian Nights (A Thousand and One Nights) when Shahrazad spins stories to save her life, here a Turkish youth orchestra, Egyptian storytellers and a Lebanese actress use the ancient arts of music and storytelling to put recent political and social events into their historical and cultural context.

The film, which was completed in September 2014, had its premier in Cape Town in February this year. It has already been described as one the of the best documentaries on recent events in Egypt.
