The launch of Tony Mochama’s latest book Nairobi – A Night Guide through the City in the Sun at the Goethe Institute.
The Daily Nation newspaper once wrote in a review of Mochama’s Princess Adhi and the Naija Coca Broda: “If Steve Biko wrote what he liked, then Tony Mochama definitely writes how he likes. Never before have the rules of spelling and grammar been so blatantly disregarded. And with such flair too.”
A columnist for The Standard’s Pulse magazine Mochama, also known as Smitta, published a poetry collection in 2007 called What if I am a Literary Gangsta. His best-known work is The Road to Eldoret and Other Stories, about the shocking middle class experience during the post election violence in 2007-2008, based on his own personal observations. Meet the Omtitas, supposedly based on his own family, was published last year and won third prize in the Burt Award for African Literature.
