Tues-Fri 11.00-17.00. Sat 09.00-15.00. Sun and holidays 14.00-17.00. Mon closed. This museum is housed in the so-called “Yellow House”, the oldest building still in public use in Maputo. It was created to mark the first anniversary of the launch of the “Metical”, Mozambique’s national currency, and inaugurated on 15 June 1981. It houses a collection of approximately 4,300 coins, banknotes and medals, of which 1,000 are from Mozambique. The display includes commodity currency such as rings, manillas and crosses in circulation in Africa and in Mozambique, metal coins and bank notes (paper money).
