Cape Town to construct new skyscraper

36-storey skyscraper will be Cape Town's tallest residential building.

Planning has been awarded for the construction of what will be the tallest residential building in Cape Town.
Concor Western Cape will build the 16 On Bree residential development in the city centre, based on plans by local developers FWJK.
Work on the 115-m high block is set to begin on 1 March, with an estimated completion date of May 2020. The 371 apartment tower will be built on Bree Street and will require the demolition of four buildings, two of whose facades will be retained for heritage reasons.
The new skyscraper will be situated near the 139-m FNB Portside building, currently the tallest in Cape Town. Completed in 2014, the mixed-use office and retail Portside is owned jointly by FirstRand Bank and Accelerate Property Fund.
The tallest residential building in Cape Town currently is the 104-m Triangle House whose 26 storeys were built in 1993.
