Health in Kenya: Nairobi hospital to examine leftover drugs.
People with left-over prescription medicines can have them analysed free of charge at Nairobi hospital to establish whether they can be re-used. The service aims to prevent waste and save costs for patients, as well as to take ineffective or potentially harmful medicines out of circulation. People should take their drugs to the hospital pharmacy for inspection. Damaged or expired medicines will be destroyed in the hospital incinerator.
Self-medication is a common practice in Kenya. This can often lead to non-treatment or the emergence of resistance by the disease to medication.
