Human rights and HIV/AIDS experts from all over the world are to meet in Accra 18-20 October to discuss the relationship between human rights and the global AIDS pandemic. Participants at the three-day conference will look at how the promotion of human rights and the elimination of discrimination and stigmatisation are crucial to strategies for combating the spread of the deadly virus, which is carried by an estimated 38.6 million people worldwide according to the latest UNAIDS and World Health Organisation statistics. Of these, around 24.5 million live in sub-Saharan Africa.
