Cape Town's community television channel CTV has begun streaming worldwide via the internet, enabling Cape Town expats to view television programmes from back home. It also has a daily news slot at 19.55 which is repeated on the Qatar-based Al Jazeera channel between 20.00 and 21.00.

CTV is a non-profit organisation which relies on grants, donations and volunteers, gaining some income from advertising. Its transmitter is situated in Tygerberg, south of the town of Stellenbosch in the Western Cape.

The station reaches a monthly audience of around 1.3 million Cape Town residents, and its director Karen Thorne said that it plans to move to digital broadcasting towards the end of 2013.
