Cape Town now has its own community television station following the launch of Cape Town Community Television Collective (CTCTV) on 16 September. Established by a group of local media and arts organisations, the station will broadcast local news, culture and current affairs. It will be run by a board nominated by local non-profit organisations, with two representatives each for labour; arts, culture and community media; the NGO sector; community; education; and sports. Initially CTCTV will operate through the South African Broadcasting Corporation for two hours a week, before becoming independent. Broadcasts are due to start in May 2007.
