Ghana is ranked as the third most peaceful country in Africa after Botswana and Malawi, according to the 2011 Global Peace Index published by the Institute of Economics and Peace in the United States. It ranks 42 on the world scale.
The report defines conflict as a contest between two parties, of which one is a government, and which results in more than 25 battle deaths a year.
Congo, Sudan and Somalia were ranked as among the lowest in the world rating, with Somalia as the most violent country on the planet at 153th place, replacing Iraq at the bottom of the last year
