The government is taking steps to buy property abroad to house its foreign diplomatic missions, minister of foreign affairs and regional integration Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni has said. The announcement comes after local media reported that missions abroad were facing lawsuits due to their inability to pay the rent. A report of the parliamentary select committee on foreign affairs has attributed the problem to a budget shortfall at the ministry and urged a review of the situation to avoid further embarrassment in the diplomatic community. Alhaji Mumuni said that buying rather than renting property had proven to be more cost-efficient in the long term.
