Nine paint manufacturers and importers are offering a ten per cent discount on their products until 30 November as part of efforts to clean up the capital ahead of Ghanas golden jubilee in 2007, when the country marks 50 years of independence on 7 March. Residents are being urged to take advantage of the offer to paint their buildings in conformity with Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) by-law according to a statement from the city council. Discounted paint can be bought from M and K (GHANA) Ltd, Ingmar Industrial Ltd, Premier Steel Ltd and Sikelele, Pelok Paints Ltd, Hexagon Industries Ltd, Bamson Company Ltd, New Paint Manufacturing Company Ltd and Azar Chemical Industries Ltd. It is hoped the results of the initiative will last until 2008, when the country is due to host the Cup of African Nations football tournament.
