Six bridges in Lagos state are in critical condition according to a team of Nigerian and foreign engineers. The problem bridges include Third Mainland bridge, the longest of three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the mainland. Lagos state commissioner for waterfront infrastructure development, Prince Adesegun Oniru, has said remedial work will now be carried out on the six bridges to strengthen them.

Third Mainland Bridge has long been the object of public concern over its poor condition. The inspection team looked at 39 bridges in total, none of which had been inspected since construction.
