Lagos to demolish properties blocking drainage

Residences built in Lagos canals face demolition.
The Lagos State government has warned that it will demolish properties built illegally in drainage channels across the state.
Lagos environment commissioner Babatunde Adejare said that the state government was committed to ensuring drainage canals were effective in discharging storm water away from residential districts into rivers and lagoons.
Adejare said illegally-constructed properties in areas designated for drainage purposes were "putting lives at risk" and blamed their owners for worsening the recent flooding which submerged houses and vehicles in Lekki, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Ajah and Oniru.
