Lagos state government has announced a project for the rehabilitation of roadside verges and the creation of new green areas and public spaces across the city, local news sources report. Roads and sites included in the scheme are Funsho Williams Avenue (formerly Western Avenue), Kudirat Abiola Way, the cenotaph off 7Up Junction, Akin Adesola Street, the area around Union Bank premises and Ahmadu Bello Way. Promised by new state governor Babatunde Fashola of the opposition party Action Congress as part of his election manifesto, the scheme aims to restore a better balance between green spaces and build-up areas in the city and curb the use of roadside verges and other spaces for trading, brick making and other activities.
