Lagos may soon get a N160 billion bridge linking Lagos Island to the suburb of Ipakodo in Ikorodu on the northern side of Lagos lagoon, local news sources report. The so-called Fourth Mainland bridge has been in the pipeline for some years but now it seems only the environmental impact assessment report is needed before construction work can begin. If all goes to plan state governor Babatunde Fashola says the bridge could be ready by the end of his four-year mandate in 2011. When finished, the bridge will relieve pressure on the busy Third Mainland Bridge and other bridges linking the mainland to the island. The project will be financed through a public-private partnership.
