Egypt has started replacing the existing hand-written passports with new electronic ones to comply with standards set by the international civil aviation authority.

The new documents have a bar code and a microchip storing biometric data such as fingerprints and an iris scan. They can only be used by one person, meaning that children or wives can no longer travel on their father
