The Maputo-based weekly newspaper “O Pais” has been re-launched as a daily. Owned by independent Mozambican media company SOICO, the publication is now a 32-page full colour tabloid with a cover price of 15 MT. It is in direct competition with the other Maputo-based daily “Noticias”, which is state-owned and also costs 15 MT. “Noticias” is a broadsheet with 24 pages, although over half of these are dedicated to advertising. The only other daily newspaper in the country is “Diario de Mocambique”, which is based in the coastal city of Beira in central Mozambique and circulates mainly in the central provinces.
