Ghanaian hiplife artist Batman Samini is the new face of the joint British Council and World Bank initiative Debate to Action (DTA) in Ghana. He will use his popularity among young Ghanaians to promote the project, which aims to create a new leadership class by training youth leaders on development issues and peer education techniques in particular. Samini will make his first public appearance in his new role on 25 November, when he will attend a forum on womens empowerment and gender equality in Maamobi, Nima and Accra Newtown communities. The event is being organised by Avert Youth Foundation, an Accra-based non governmental organisation. Then on 30 November he will travel to the Nigerian capital Abuja to take part in the launch of the DTA programme in Nigeria. Samini won the 2006 best African act award at the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards in London.
