Leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) Helen Zille is set to become the premier of the Western Cape after her party won a clear majority of the popular vote in provincial elections on 22 April. This will be her fourth experience of political office having served on the Western Cape provincial government with responsibility for education from 1999 to 2004, as a member of the national assembly from 2004 to 2006 and as mayor of Cape Town from 2006 to the present.
