The international retail company Metro Group has opened its first wholesale cash-and-carry supermarket in Egypt, in the El Salam City district on the outskirts of Cairo. The store, which operates under the brand name Makro, caters to retailers, the hospitality industry and businesses in particular, offering customers 20,000 food and non-food products for bulk purchase. Ninety per cent of products are sourced from within Egypt and the store provides work for up to 1,250 mostly local employees.

The opening of the Makro store marks the Germany-based Metro Group
