Norman Ling has been appointed the new British ambassador to Ethiopia. He replaces Robert Dewar, who will take up the post of British High Commissioner in Nigeria.

Ling comes to Ethiopia from a senior managerial post at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. His overseas postings include three years as British high commissioner in Malawi (2001-2004), deputy head of mission in Turkey (1993-1997) and service in South Africa, Iran and Libya. He is due to take up his appointment in Addis Ababa in January 2008.
