Tanzania is to consolidate its position as the second largest wine producer in Africa after South Africa by making the semi-sweet and fruity white wine Overmeer from locally grown grapes, the East African newspaper reports.
The project is being led by Tanzania Distilleries, one of the leading producers of alcoholic beverages in the country. The company has been piloting the production of Overmeer using grapes grown in the highlands of Dodoma since 2006 with input from South Africa
