Elias Sime

Using computer motherboards as inspiration Elias Sime has created Tightrope out of recyclable materials.

The exhibition is curated by Meskerem Assegued and is on show at the Alliance Ethio-Française, the British Council, the Goethe Institut, and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Addis Ababa.

Sime, one of Ethiopia’s internationally-recognised artists, graduated from the Addis Ababa University School of Fine Art in 1990. He makes his creations with found objects – from metal and computer scraps to buttons – that he finds around the city.

Sime sculpted the environmentally sustainable building – made from mud, stone, local wood and ceramics – which is now the home of Zoma Contemporary Art Center (ZCAC) in Addis.

His work has been shown in Vienna, New York, and Santa Monica.
