Reinata Sadimba and Mapfara

Vozez da terra. Reinata Sadimba and Mapfara. Modern sculpture inspired by Makonde traditions. Sadimba grew up making everyday clay utensils and then became a serious ceramic artist. During the civil war she emigrated to Tanzania and on her return 12 years later she became the country’s foremost internationally recognised sculptor.

Sadimba’s ceramic sculptures are in the National Museum of Mozambique, the Musée de l’Art Brut in Lausanne and Culturgest’s Modern Art collection in Lisbon.

Mapfara (Antonio Horacio Sitoe) is a self-taught ceramist with a modern style based on traditional influences. His fantastical figures are made of one or two intertwined beings.
