15-25 March 2006. Anton Chekhov's The Seagull opens a programme at the University of Cape Towns Little Theatre to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the venue. The choice is not accidental: the theatre housed in a former chemistry laboratory opened with the four-act comedy by the Russian short-story writer and dramatist on 18 August 1931. This production is directed by former UCT drama student and senior lecturer Liz Mills. The anniversary programme also includes the Xhosa-language drama Kusalawula Yena about the lengths to which people can go to make money, based on the novel by GBS Xundu and directed by staff member Thoko Ntshinga (10-29 April). Mon-Sat 20.15.
