Tribute Kevin Atkinson

This exhibition is drawn from the Atkinson’s underground Studio, better known as Plato’s Cave and pays tribute to the South African painter and sculptor Kevin Atkinson (1939-2007). It analyzes his great contribution to South African art both as an artist and an educator. His thesis was the reconciliation of opposites in Life and Art through the personal use of symbols. Between the 1960s and 1990s this controversial artist embraced a variety of artistic approaches and inspired various generations of students of the University of Cape Town.
