Travel by road between the northern towns of Moshi and Arusha could become quicker and safer under plans to expand the present two-lane highway, the Tanzania roads agency (TANROADS) has said.

The project involves the total overhaul of the road from the Usa River area just east of Arusha to the Holili-Taveta border with Kenya and the creation of an additional lane in both directions. Feasibility studies will be carried out over the coming months and if all goes to plan construction could begin in 2010.
