Cairo metro to have airport link

Third metro line will connect Heliopolis to Cairo airport.

Construction is to begin in late December on the fourth phase of Cairo's third metro line, which will extend to the city's international airport from Heliopolis, a suburb situated seven km northeast of the city centre.

The new 6.65-km stretch of track will have five underground stations and will expand Cairo's third metro line to 48 km, making it the longest metro line in the Middle East.

Excavation work is expected to be carried out by French company Vinci which also dug earlier phases of Cairo’s third metro line.
The news comes as Cairo metro commuters prepare for a ticket price increase in 2018.
