Cape Town won the title of Best Destination in Africa at the World Tourism Awards on 19 September, marking the seventh time the city was awarded the honour. With the exception of 2004 and 2007, when the award went to Egyptian coastal resort Sharm El Sheikh, Cape Town has scooped the top award every year since 1998.
Cape Town beat the other African contenders for the title including Marrakech in Morocco, Luxor in Egypt and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, as well as domestic locations such as Durban, Johannesburg and Kruger National Park, one of Africa
