The Athletics Kenya (AK) Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) national cross country championships take place at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi on 18 February.

Attracting mainly Kenyans, other participants in the race will come from the 500 athletes from Uganda, Tanzania, Europe and Asia currently training in the high-altitude town Eldoret in western Kenya, where they are preparing for the London Olympic Games.

Runners will battle for selection on national teams to contest the second edition of the continental cross country championships in Pretoria, South Africa on 18 March, with the winner receiving $40,000.

Athletes to look out for include local runner Timothy Kiptoo who beat Japan-based Bernard Karoki to win the Athletics Kenya Kenya Commercial Bank cross country race in January, as well as champion long distance runner Mercy Cherono, also from Kenya.
