Egyptian athletes took home 74 gold, 62 silver and 63 bronze medals from the All Africa Games that ran from 11-23 July, putting them at the top of the medals table for the fifth time in the history of the competition. Host country Algeria came a close second with 70 gold, 58 silver and 76 bronze, and South Africa third with 61 gold, 66 silver and 53 bronze. Roughly 8,000 athletes from 52 African countries competed in 27 disciplines in the ninth edition of the regional competition, which is held every four years. The next edition of the games will be held in Lusaka, Zambia, in 2011.
