Responsibility for managing street parking is soon to be handed from the existing private operators to their employees, local news sources report.

Under the controversial plans by the city council parking attendants currently working for parking operators will be encouraged to form their own associations and bid for contracts. The details of the handover have to be worked out but the arrangement should lead to an increase in attendants
