Chilonga’s 20 Years of Experience

7-27 April 2012. This exhibition pays tribute to the 20 year-long career of the Tanzanian artist Chilonga Haji.

Chilonga was born in 1969 at Lukuledi in south Tanzania from a pottery and blacksmiths family. He started his career by paintings and drawing commercial advertisements. He became a professional painter at the beginning of the 1990s after being tutored by more experienced artists. His paintings are inspired by local life, but he is also specialized in portraits. His works have been displayed around Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, USA and Canada.
