14 June 2012. Goethe Institut hosts the screening of this American documentary film, entitled The Naked Option, directed by Candace Schermerhorn.
It documents the life of grassroots women in the Niger Delta, who are strong and determined to create a better future. These women use the treat of stripping naked in public, a serious cultural taboo, in their struggle to hold oil companies accountable to the communities in which they operate. Through the leadership of the courageous, charismatic and inexhaustible Emem J. Okon, these female protagonists mobilize themselves into a political force.
Event starts at 19.00.
