18 Oct-4 Nov 2006. Photographs by Dirk Van der Merwe of HIV-positive Sizophila (meaning we shall survive) counsellors working for the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation are on show in the Hope Exhibition at the Bell-Roberts Contemporary Art Gallery in Cape Town. The Sizophila counsellors are responsible for educating and supporting patients undergoing life-prolonging anti-retroviral treatment for HIV/AIDS. Themselves carriers of the virus, they are able to relate to the patients needs and play a fundamental role in their therapy. Limited-edition prints will be on sale at the exhibition and some of the images will be used for the 2007 Hope Calendar. All proceeds will go to the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation.
